How Every Man Jack recovered from an 80% on-time delivery rate, migrated 57 trading partners in six months, and came out running leaner than before.

The Problem: When EDI Becomes a Business Risk

Every Man Jack makes personal care products for men, sold at Publix, Kroger, Wegmans, Kohl's, Nordstrom, and other major retailers. When CFO Steve Fox joined in May 2021, the company was running SAP Business One with TrueCommerce handling EDI. The platform worked until it didn't.

The cracks showed up in the numbers. On-time delivery rates, which had held steady in the 96–97% range, dropped to 80%. For a brand that lives and dies by its shelf presence and retailer relationships, that's not an inconvenience. It's a direct threat to the business.

There are certain things you just know are going to be a pain. Dealing with the IRS, for example. Working with our EDI provider was exactly like that. Any time we had to onboard a new partner, any time there was a problem, you just knew it was going to suck.

- Steve Fox, CFO, Every Man Jack

The frustration was structural, not situational. Every issue required a support ticket. Every ticket got passed between multiple agents. Every agent started from scratch. James Martin, Every Man Jack's IT Manager, had worked at a different CPG company before joining. He had also been on SAP Business One with a legacy provider at that company and recognized the exact same problems on day one.

"My first day at Every Man Jack, I thought: a much bigger company, surely they have a better EDI setup. It was the exact same problems," Martin said. "At that point I realized: this isn't an β€˜us’ problem. This is a [legacy EDI] problem."

The Decision: A 9-Day Sales Cycle

In early 2025, Every Man Jack signed a contract with NetSuite and committed to a September 1 go-live date. That left roughly six months for the full migration: ERP and EDI simultaneously. The EDI piece was the critical path.

Their existing provider, a legacy provider, said the timeline was impossible. Fox had already started looking elsewhere. He ran a search for EDI disruptors and found Orderful, specifically its positioning around being EDI that actually works.Β

β€œThe software had an immediate reaction from the team. … When you hear positive reviews from people who actually have to use it every day, that tells you everything,” Fox said. β€œFor me, any technology implementation lives or dies on whether people actually embrace it. The empowering nature of the platform, specifically not having to rely on someone else to make changes, not having to bring in a translator. That was the real signal.”

The Migration: 57 Partners in 6 Months

The migration ran from approximately March to September 2025: 57 trading partners, dozens of document types, all while the NetSuite implementation was running in parallel.

The whole implementation was much more organized. More modern. More aligned with the way good software businesses actually work.Β

- James Martin, IT Manager, Every Man Jack

The go-live ready moment hit in September 2025. Transaction processing time, which had previously run up to 24 hours under the old system, dropped to seconds. Orders that previously took hours to appear began showing up inside NetSuite within 15 minutes.

The Results

The business impact was fast and measurable.

  • On-time fulfillment returned to 95%+, recovering from the 80% low point under the company’s previous legacy provider.

  • Transaction processing dropped from up to 24 hours to seconds.

The staffing story is worth pausing on. In early April 2026, both order management team members left the company within a short window of each other. Every Man Jack has not filled those roles. The operation kept running.

"We brought in a tiered support model: a team being trained on base-level EDI support, with Orderful as the escalation layer if something can't be resolved," Fox said. "If we can maintain this, we think we can reduce by at least one FTE. That's real ROI from a platform we've been on for under a year."

Orderful has transformed our EDI operations from a cost center into a competitive advantage. What once took 2–4 hours now completes in 15–30 minutes. Transaction processing that previously required up to 24 hours now happens in seconds. Their platform empowered our team to configure custom rules independently. From a financial perspective, the real-time transaction flow means faster cash conversion, and the operational efficiency has freed up valuable staff time for higher-value work.

- Steve Fox, CFO, Every Man Jack

The team's relationship with EDI has changed entirely. Martin, who used to be one of the only people at the company with enough technical knowledge to help troubleshoot previous provider issues, now spends almost no time on EDI support.

"It's way more self-serve now," Martin said. "We have an intern in accounting with no prior EDI experience who figured out how to pull 100 documents at a time out of Orderful using the API. Before, that kind of thing would have been a five-thousand-dollar custom project."

What Comes Next: EDI as Infrastructure

Martin has started building on top of the Orderful API, routing EDI 820 and 830 documents (payment remittance and order forecasts) directly to the right people inside the business via automation tools, bypassing the need for those recipients to log into NetSuite or the Orderful UI at all. He's also working on cash application workflows that pull chargeback and deduction data from EDI documents into NetSuite as actual transactions.

"Because Orderful's API works in JSON, it plays well with everything," Martin said. "You're not limited by the platform. With our previous provider, even getting a couple hundred text files on the way out the door was a five-thousand-dollar project. With Orderful, anyone can connect it to anything."

Fox draws a sharper line: "AI is making it an equal playing field now. The big companies used to get the good technology first, and it would eventually filter down. That's not true anymore. There's no reason to stick with partners who make your life difficult just so they don't lose you. Those days are over."
